A Century of Service - McGee Ford

A Century of Service

Thank You, Lydenburg!

What an incredible day! We want to extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who joined us this past Sunday, March 29, 2026, at Hoërskool Lydenburg for the McGee Ford 100 Year Birthday Bash. Seeing the community come together for food, family fun, and an unforgettable performance by Riaan Benade was the perfect way to celebrate our centennial.

Where It All Began: A Century of Heritage

Our story in Lydenburg stretches back even further than our 100 years with Ford.

  • 1886 – The First Spark: Michael McGee emigrated from Ireland and established a garage and smithy in Lydenburg.
  • 1926 – The Blue Oval Arrives: Michael’s son, Bernard McGee, officially secured the Ford franchise, beginning a partnership that has lasted ten decades.
  • A Family Legacy: The business has been handed down through the family, from Bernard to the late Garth McGee, and today it continues under the leadership of current owner Clifford McGee.

Why This Milestone Matters

This isn't just a birthday for a building; it is a celebration of resilience. McGee Ford is officially recognized as the oldest family-owned Ford dealership in South Africa and remains the longest-running business in Lydenburg.

Just last month, on February 26, 2026, our commitment to this community and the Ford brand was officially honored by Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa with a prestigious 100-Year Anniversary Award.

Looking Forward

To our loyal customers who have been with us through generations—from the first Model T's to the latest Rangers—thank you for making us a staple of the Mpumalanga landscape. We are proud to be part of your history and look forward to being part of your future for the next 100 years.

Thank you for the support,
From the McGee Ford team
